💐 In The Name Of Allah The Most Gracious The Most Merciful
💌 One of the ways to ensure the wellness of your emotional and mental well-being is to avoid toxic users on social media. You have every right to unfollow or unfriend a user whose status updates make you doubt your self-worth, feel awful about an insecurity you're struggling with, or distract you from your goal of striving to be a better Muslim.
The definition of "toxic" isn't exactly the same for everybody. What you're emotionally allergic to may be considered as tolerable or essential for someone else, just as what they can't tolerate is something you find valuable and helpful. In my case Alhamdulillah I've had to unfollow and/or delete a number of users who post passive-aggressive status updates, whiny rants, and mostly negative news. Scrolling through their timelines gives me the sense of being around an insecure individual who enjoys cowardly gossiping, backbiting and counting others' mistakes whilst they forget their own errors and imperfections. I'd rather have my faith/Imaan levels increase by regularly reading Islamic reminders and beneficial messages than throw away each second browsing around selfies and gossipy status updates aimlessly.
If you feel anxious before you intend to check a user's timeline, worried you may encounter a status update that is indirectly referring to you or somebody you know in a hurtful manner so it negatively affects your mood, unapologetically unfollow them or unfriend them yet maintain basic courtesy if ever you bump into each other offline or spot their name on a mutual friend's platform.
The type of people you choose to surround can hugely impact your overall behavior and beliefs. The more you chill with your preferred group of friends or the more you expose yourself to certain users on Facebook, the more you acquire their prominent traits such as their enthusiasm to learn more about Islam, courage to defend the truth, eagerness to do charity for Allah's sake, ability to express oneself creatively when being creative can come in handy, or being disciplined in staying silent during times of fitna and speaking only when necessary.
