💌 Some of the signs of genuinely trustworthy
people include:
1) They rarely complain to you about others or talk badly
about anyone behind their backs. If someone has the audacity to gossip and
backbite to you about a mutual friend, this gossiper has the potential to speak
negatively about you similarly to others when you are not in their presence.
2) They don't get jealous of your achievements nor feel
threatened by your positive qualities. Even if you're more good-looking than
them, more successful at your work, wealthier, have more kids, or you have
numerous creative skills which they don't, trustworthy friends are happy when
you're joyful, supportive of your accomplishments, and seeing you smile doesn't
make them frown with envious resentment.
3) They reciprocate and return your favors whenever they
can. Your connection consists of mutual give and take acts of kindness, free
from any shady agenda. Your friendship isn't one sided and they wholeheartedly
love you back, even if returning your generosity comes in the form of sincerely
including you in their frequent Du'as.
4) They're protective, defending you both when you're
around and when you're absent. In a social gathering or group discussion, if
they notice you feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable, or someone is causing you
trouble, they're quick to back you up, stand by you or at least provide
comfort.
5) They respect your boundaries and need for privacy when
you require isolation at times. They don't get disappointed if you can't accept
their invitation to attend an outing or event. They understand your situation
and don't insist that you always hang out with them when your body needs some
rest after a busy day. They readily forgive you even if you didn't apologize
yet.
When a Muslim truly loves you for Allah's sake, you can Inn-sha-Allah
guarantee that they can be trusted. Stealing from you, taking advantage of your
bond, spreading rumors, making you look bad, ruining your reputation, being
unsupportive and planning to betray you are some of the things that they would
never do to you.
Truthful friends who are reliable want you to trust them,
just as much as they expect you to remain honest.
📖 Abu Hurairah RadhiAllahu 'anhu narrated: The
Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam said, “Years of treachery
(before the Day of Judgment) will come over people in which liars are believed
and the truthful are denied, the deceitful are trusted, and the trustworthy are
considered traitors, and the disgraceful will deliver speeches.” It was said,
“Who are the disgraceful?” The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam said, “Ignorant
men with authority over the common people.”
